After our birthday weekend, Jake’s grandparents came into town for Kelsie’s graduation. As part of the celebration we took a family trip down to the beach. We stopped in Corpus Christi to eat our lunch and see where Jake was born and then headed on to Port Aransas. The old folks went out fishing and the kids played at the beach and in some of the surf shops.
The water was very inviting because the gulf water is so warm but once we got out there I realized what every Texan already knows, that the water is very dirty. We played out there just long enough for Jake to have his wedding ring slip off. Typical us, right? Luckily, we got his for under 50 bucks so we weren’t too heartbroken.
Once we cleaned our swimsuits out from all the seaweed and dirt, we met back up with the parents and grandparents for some dinner at Moby Dick’s. The food was ok but the scenery was the most fun! Just take a look.
Next we hit our anniversary. Since we went on a cruise in April we decided that that was our big first year getaway. Instead Jake put together a romantic fondue dinner. I’m the luckiest women to have such a wonderful husband. I love Jacob so much!
By the end of June we were happy to move from our first apartment to something a step up. Only to find out on moving day the apartment we thought we were getting was totally different. After much thought and deliberation we decided to go apartment shopping…the day we had to be out of our current apartment. Sounds crazy but as always the Lord was looking out for us. We were able to find an apartment that day and it was ready to move in. It was perfect! The floor plan was exactly want we wanted. The complex said that the floor plan we got never stays open long. We came in just as someone had to back out. No apartment is without flaw but we love our new home!
Twice this summer we got to go to the famous water park down here, Schlitterbahn. This park wasn’t like any water park I had ever been to. It was 95% tube rides. One ride even dumps you out on a part of the river. It was a new experience for me and I really enjoyed it. My favorite part was actually their lazy rivers but they weren’t very lazy. They pumped in water to speed it up. Awesome! Due to the fact that we don’t have a water proof camera, no fun pictures here.
We ended our fun summer activities with a lake house in Austin. I first need to back up and say that our ward exploded this summer with young couples and we finally found our match. Mike and Kristina were married only 6 months after us and also live in our new complex. But it gets better. Mike grew up in San Antonio like Jake and Kristina is also from Southern California like me. It’s been nice to have another couple we can relate to and have fun with. Mike was our connection to the lake house.
We drove up Saturday morning and planned to just get away and hang out for two days. The house used to sit right on the lake but due to the lack of rain that Texas has been suffering from, we had to go on a small hike to get to the lake. It was sad to see how much water was lost out of it. The boys enjoyed being boys in the water and the girls enjoyed just being outside, dry on the dock talking.
That night we went to a Mexican restaurant, the Iguana Grill, which has the best guacamole. Kristina and I were in heaven! It’s hard to find good avocados and guacamole here in Texas. I’m not sure why. (Jake says it’s only because California girls are too proud of their home state’s avocados.) The rest of our mini vacation was spent just relaxing, playing games, and watching movies. Thanks to our friends for a great weekend!
I love all the pictures! Your little belly is so cute!! I am glad y guys have a couple to hang out with, it's so fun! We miss us and can't wait to find out what you are having...
